Instead of sitting on a maturing model of selling stuff online, eBay has the chance to be the leader in shaping this exciting technology’s path to ubiquity. The price was high, but who knows more about bidding than eBay?

Sehr Interessant! Auf der Seite SkypeJournal gibt es eine Foto von einer internen Skype Produktroadmap. Dort sind die neuen Features und Funktionen der kommenden Release Version aufgelistet. So soll z.B. Videotelefonie mit dem Release 1.5 kommen. Wer sich also etwas näher für Skype interessiert, der kann ja mal einen Blick riskieren.

Nachdem ich die ersten Gerüchte über eine Übernahme von Skype durch Ebay gehört hatte, war ich doch schon leicht von diese Konstellation überrascht. Noch größer war die Überraschung natürlich als schließlich der Deal verkündet wurde. Unter dem oben angegeben Link findet sich die Investor Relation Präsentation von eBay zur Skype Übernahme. Wirklich bahnbrechende neue Ideen/Ansätze und Begründungen, was das Synergie Potential anbelangt, konnte ich der Präsentation beim ersten Überfliegen nicht entnehmen. Ich denke eBay hat sich einfach eines der interessantesten Inet Startup Unternehmen ausgesucht. Ob und inwiefern es wirklich zu Synergien kommen wird, muss ersteinmal in Frage gestellt werden, schließlich hätte Ebay auch einfach einen eigene VoIP-Client entwickeln können, wenn es nur um die Kommunikation zwischen den eBay-Mitgliedern geht.
Von daher sehe ich die Entwicklung von Skype erst einmal ganz “normal” weiterlaufen, zumal ja gewisse Zahlungen von Ebay an Performance Ziele geknüpft sind. Da wird Skype sich jetzt erstmal strecken dürfen, um diese Ziele auch erfüllen zu können. Die nächste sog. Meilensteine für Skype sind aus meiner Sicht:- Release des Videoclients
- Vermarktung von Skype enabled Wifiphones und IP-Phones

SkypeJournal: First little Review on Google Talk
Is it all over for Skype? As Google Talk launched tonight with an Orkuttian viral shove provided by Gmail. At first glance it could be Skype’s worst nightmare or the kick start necessary to refocus Skype. If you missed the buzz, Google Talk is the long awaited and predicted IM / Voice client. It won’t be over for awhile and the battle will take to the trenches with Yahoo, MSN and AOL battling to the end. This is a first salvo. Don’t expect Google’s feature set additions to follow Skype’s path immediately to Telecom as Google has other opportunities sitting there within its empire. These are my first impressions.
